Flat Iron in Soho

GO GO GO... That is if you like steak. I love steak and I love Flat Iron.

Great service, great food, lovely setting and simple - cant go wrong well you can if you over cook my steak.

We went for the Kobe beef which was on special for a very good price of £16. The chips are cooked in beef dripping the popcorn served in an old sailors tin mug is even laced with beef dripping.

We went all out and ordered lots of sides.

You do not really have much chose its simple steak and sides... this menu which hangs on the wall is below...

And for that little touch of theatre you get your very own mini meat cleaver! Love it!

Amazing Boisdale ...

I have been wanting to go here for ages and ages so needless to say I was a touch excited about going. We ended up at the Canary Wharf one.

We walked in and were immediately greeted by two love looking ladies one offering to take my coat and the other to take us to our table. Now a friend of a friend who works for Boisdale had organises our table and made sure we had a lovely table with a view and bubbles! It's always nice to be made a fuss of.

The restaurant is just gorgeous! I love love love it  - you walk in to a large open restaurant with tables round the curve of the floor to celling windows and an large beautifully lit bar with bottles upon bottles sitting above the long dark wood bar. It made me think of the bar I the shinning - it's just lush!

The interior is very much as to be expected - dark wood, rich colours, dim intimate lighting creating a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. This was also enhanced by some live jazz. I was very excited by this but actually it was a little loud, we found it difficult to hear each other.

Now on to the food ...
The menu is really very good lots and lots to choose from which I normally don't like, I prefer to keep it small and do it well. But honestly I couldnt complain here.

I finally decided on the oak smoked salmon followed by rib beef on the bone with broccoli and chips

Both were amazing my steak was cooked to perfection sadly for me I couldn't actually manage the whole thing and ended up taking half back for my friends dog (well better he have it than it go in the bin)

My friend had retro prawn cocktail which looked amazing and the fish special

Our waiter was brilliant, the whole evening was perfect I would recommend Boisdale to everyone  and will defiantly be going back

I would say 10 /10 on all accounts

Fab food in Canary Wharf

A wonderful dinner last night at Plateau Canary Wharf

I have been here a couple of times before but a while ago now. So last night when posed with the question, where should we go to eat in Canary Wharf, my first thought was Plateau. I haven't actually eaten here before but I knew it had a lovely terrace area (need I say any more).

So a table for two was promptly booked in the A la carte restaurant which I, to be honest didnt have a preference on.  However upon arrival I will very pleased we had. The bar was very busy and very noisy.

We grabbed a drink at the bar and then made our way to the terrace - which to be frank was a total let down. Last time I was there, they had lovely over sized cushions on the floor, skin rugs and a wonderful winter chill out feel. Last night it was tables and a few candles, leaving me feeling a little underwhelmed to say the least.

Any who thats not the end of the world but it was a disappointment.

On to the FOOD!

We were sat at our table by a very friendly and helpful waiter (host, I think). We asked to be moved to a window table which wasnt a problem at all.

Ordering was a breeze - lots of yummy dishes to choose from. I went for...

1⁄2 dozen Colchester oysters, shallot vinegar, rye bread, lemon - very nice, beautifully presented in the traditional style and from Essex so cant really go too wrong.

And for main I went for - Best end and slow braised shoulder of Colne Valley lamb, spiced sweetbreads and jus - this was possibly the best piece of lamb i have had this year! It was cooked to perfection and the jus was a perfect consistency, very very good!

and my partner in crime for the night went for the ...

Dill and lemon cured Scottish salmon, marinated cucumber, grain mustard dressing

Pot roast Cornish gurnard, Savoy cabbage with pancetta, sauce Genovese  - seemed to go down very well no complaints so thumbs up there.

The wine list was ok, I was choosing for the ' by the glass' list so to be fair I didnt have a massive choice but I must admit I didnt recognise any of them so went for the wine Burgundy ??? It was lush so that was a result!

We finished up with the sharing tarte tatin with vanilla ice cream which was supper yummy!!!

All in all I wouldn't go back but in a hurry. Dont get me wrong the food was amazing - the best lamb I have had in ages (as I have already said) - cooked to perfection.

I think thats done now lets move on to another one.

If you are in the area do go its well worth a visit

I have already recommended my sister to go.

Lovely meal at Brasserie Joël last night!

I was invited last minute to join a friend for dinner at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London hotel last night. The service was very attentive and the food delicious. Very relaxed dim lit dinning room was lovely and really enhanced the experience. The menu was good, lots to choose from. I went for the SQUID À LA PROVENÇALE Tapenade croûton which was very very good indeed - served cold which i wasnt expecting but yummy all the same. Followed by a very blushing ROAST RACK OF LAMB Garlic confit, watercress and thyme jus - very tasting and tender. All in all a bloody lovely bit of grub!

last night at the 50 Best Restaurants Awards

Noma crowned The World’s Best Restaurant for third
consecutive year

René Redzepi and his team raised the roof at the 10th anniversary of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, as Denmark’s Noma was named no. 1 for the third year in a row.
The standard bearer for the New Nordic movement, Redzepi’s meticulous attention to detail and innovative approach has enabled Noma to maintain its position at the coveted top spot of the list, which is widely considered to be the highlight of the global dining calendar.
Spain can claim 5 restaurants on the list including Arzak at no. 8, whose joint Head Chef Elena Arzak was awarded the Veuve Clicquot World’s Best Female Chef award.
The Chefs' Choice award, sponsored by Silestone and voted for by the World’s 50 Best chefs, was presented to Andoni Luis Aduriz of Mugaritz in San Sebastian. Devastated by a fire 2 years ago, the restaurant holds its place at no.3.
The host nation also has plenty to celebrate with Dinner by Heston Blumenthal in London shooting straight in at no.9 to take the Highest New Entry award, sponsored by Les Concierges, as well as establishing itself as the UK’s highest placed restaurant. Heston Blumenthal’s historically influenced British cooking has proved hugely popular with both the local and international judging panels.
Australian Brett Graham whose London establishment, The Ledbury, was last year’s Highest New Entry, rose an impressive 20 places to no. 14, taking the Highest Climber award, sponsored by Cacao Barry.
Another restaurant clocking up a third consecutive win is Quay restaurant overlooking the sparkling Sydney harbour which returns home with the Best Restaurant in Australasia title and a very respectable no. 29 ranking.
The USA boasts 8 restaurants in the list this year, the highest of which is New York based Per Se, owned by legendary chef Thomas Keller, who was rewarded with the Best Restaurant in North America and the S.Pellegrino Lifetime Achievement accolade after spending each of the past 10 years of the awards on the list under one guise or another. His originalCalifornian restaurant, The French Laundry, which held the top spot for two years (2003-04), has also re- entered the list this year at no. 43.
With 6 restaurants on the list, the Asian contingent has secured its position on the gastronomic map and the event organiser took the opportunity to announce the launch of the new Asia's 50 Best Restaurants awards at the ceremony, which will be held in Singapore in February 2013. The awards, which are also sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, are welcomed by top chefs from the continent including Ignatius Chan from Iggy’s in Singapore, who took the Best Restaurant in Asia title at no. 26. He said, “Asia has a long culinary history and we offer a deep, diverse and rich gastronomic landscape. Asia's 50 Best Restaurants is a fantastic platform to educate and showcase some of the greatest Asian restaurants to the world.”
South America confirmed its standing on the list with 4 restaurants spanning Mexico, Peru and Brazil, whose São Paolo establishment D.O.M, run by ex-DJ Alex Atala, rose 3 places to enter the top 5 at no.4 and claim the Best Restaurant in South America title.
La Grenouillère in northern France received the 2012 One To Watch accolade sponsored by Acqua Panna. Chef-patron Alexandre Gauthier took the reins of the restaurant from his father back in 2003 when he was just 24. Placed at no. 81, his adventurous and ambitious cuisine now excites critics the world over. Last year’s One To Watch, Frantzén/Lindeberg, based in Stockholm, lived up to expectations and rose 37 places to join the list at no. 20.
New for this year was the inclusion of the Slow Food UK Award, sponsored by Highland Park single malt whisky. The award, which champions chefs and restaurants that support small scale producers and sustainably sourced, quality produce, was presented to Steirereck from Vienna, Austria.
Editor of Restaurant magazine, William Drew, commented, “A specially convened judging panel assessed the restaurants in this year’s list based on the principles of the Slow Food UK movement – locality, heritage, sustainability and the revival of forgotten foods – and Heinz Reitbauer's Steirereck in Vienna came out on top. Situated in Vienna's central city park, it is remarkable for its commitment to indigenous sourcing, the use of historic ingredients and recipes and the promotion of sustainability across the food chain.”

Our new place for the summer

Our new place for the summer - The Dukes Head at Hatfield Broad Oak.

After a little stroll in Hatfield forest we popped in today for a spot of Sunday lunch and were very pleasantly surprised by the rather impressive menu! I now wish i had grabbed a copy to post.

Great service great garden, fab wendy house in the garden for the kids and most importantly - great food!

I went for the beef and the boys were won over by the bubble and squeak. Needless to say with the menu being so good we will be heading back there a lot more.

I am sure the pics will say it all!
